How to get a taxi driving licence in Finland
Five steps from a category B licence to working behind the wheel — based on Traficom’s official guidance.
Check that you meet the requirements
You need a category B driving licence issued in Finland or another EU/EEA country, held for at least one year before applying. You must meet the group 2 medical fitness-to-drive requirements, must not be subject to a driving ban, and must not have entries in the criminal record or the register of fines that would prevent issuing the licence.
Book the taxi driver examination
The examination is booked through Ajovarma’s customer service. Choose your examination language when booking — and prepare before you book, which is exactly what this platform is for.
Pass the examination
The official examination has 50 multiple-choice questions and lasts a maximum of 45 minutes. Each question has exactly one completely correct answer. An approved examination result remains valid until further notice.
Apply for the taxi driving licence
Submit your application via Ajovarma. The average processing time for applications that need no additional information is about two weeks.
Receive your licence and start driving
The licence is sent to you by post within approximately three weeks of approval. It is valid for five years — or two years if you are aged 68 or over — after which it must be renewed.
